Mike, chair of McGuireWoods’ Commercial Litigation Department, is a trusted trial lawyer whose leadership as commonwealth’s attorney in Richmond for 13 years earned him widespread acclaim, public support, and the respect of the legal community in Virginia and beyond. He leverages this experience to serve clients in a wide array of complex commercial litigation, sensitive government investigations, high stakes tort litigation and white-collar criminal defense matters.
During his tenure as Richmond commonwealth’s attorney — the city’s top prosecutor — Mike led high-profile prosecutions, headed investigations into top statewide elected officials, helped police reduce homicides and violent crimes, and implemented groundbreaking criminal justice reforms.
A Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Mike has been recognized by Legal 500 United States as a top attorney in General Commercial Disputes. He served as managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Richmond office — the firm’s largest — and frequently presented at conferences and programs devoted to improving the justice system. Mike was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Richmond School of Law for 16 years.
